Lots of people ask this. There is no fixed answer.
What I suggest is that you have a minimum of 3 consultations spaced at 4-6 weeks, and preferably 6.hopefully we can increase the time between consults when things are going well and we see positive and lasting changes.
With every follow-up consult I'll be assessing how you've responded to the remedy given and looking at whether to wait longer, repeat doses or change the remedy at this point.
If you come with health problems that have been there for a while it can take time to see things really moving, not always though, it's sometimes pretty quick and depends on many factors.
There are many thousands of remedies, and you are different from any other client. Remedies are chosen for you, not a named condition so you could need anything, there may be many remedies that help you and we may need to move through a number of them.
This is a very useful article about Fevers from Seattle Children's
hospital. sometimes we really need to have a fever to regain health and fight off infections.
Follow-ups …...why are they important and why I ask you to book back in
So, you’ve had an initial consultation, taken your first remedy doses and are booked back in for your next appointment.
On of the astonishing things about Homeopathy is that after you have a remedy major and long standing things can change. And that can take some time.
* “I feel more like myself again”
Countless times a client has said “I didn’t even realise until I started talking with you again how much has changed. And I am feeling much more Me again, come back to myself”
Follow-up is a time I can check back with you about what you came for help with, the symptoms you experienced and
When things are going really well I might suggest just continuing with less frequent doses of the remedy or to wait for a while and see what continues to happen.
I will suggest we schedule to meet in a few months for a check in, see that things are still progressing well.
*“I feel worse and this thing I haven’t had for years has come back.”
So now I know you have responded to the remedy which is great to know.
The return of a symptom such as a pain, a skin rash and feeling can be a sign your body and vital force are responding and clearing. If you feel worse and that hasn’t resolved it shows me I may need to change the remedy at this point, and the way you are now can show me more clearly what that is.
*”I’m not really sure”
Sometimes much more subtle shifts are starting to happen. It’s great to reflect on those and clarify if this is still the best remedy for you, or that things have moved to a different picture and a new remedy is better indicated.
*”Nothing has happened”
And sometimes indeed nothing has happened.
Then I really want to spend time with you exploring this. You may have some new symptoms, the symptoms you came with may be clearer, I want to see and understand more fully how you are and what remedy is needed now.
As your homeopath, these subsequent consults are a vital part of the way I can help you in moving towards long-term deeper health and well-being to the best of my evolving knowledge and skills.
I am always happy to talk with you about what I see happening, what I’m doing and why. Please just ask !
My colleague Pat Deacon puts this so well. Here’s a link to her blog post, shared with her permission. Thank you !
Supervision and Mentoring
I trained to be a supervisor for Homeopaths - students and practitioners - and am excited to work with anyone who would like supervision in their work and life, from any profession and life situation.
Whether you are a Homeopath, a practitioner or student of another complementary health discipline, an artist, musician, writer, run groups or choirs, work in management, at home caring for children and family while squeezing in time to pursue your dreams.....we can all need a confidential space to explore our life or work challenges.
Sessions offered in Edinburgh, Musselburgh and on-line via Skype and whereby.com
For Homeopaths and student homeopaths
The homeopaths I love learning from, and whose works I refer to daily in my practice, are Louis Klein, Jan Scholten, Annette Sneevliet, Dr Jonathan Hardy, Dr Julie Geraghty, Dr Elizabeth Thompson and Geoff Johnson. Zhomeo webinars with Louis Klein, Pat Deacon, Pat Maher, Markus Kuntosch, Martin Jakob and many others are a brilliant and vibrant resource, full of treasures. I use Rajan Sankaran and Doctors Bhawisha and Shachindra Joshi work and insights too.
I'm learning and exploring my way into a deeper understanding of Michal Yakir's plant system and Mahesh Ghandi's work.
I enjoy exploring different approaches and models of working, to be flexible in case taking and analysis for the very different clients I meet with.
I am on the list of Supervisors for the Society of Homeopaths, the School of Homeopathy and the North West College of Homeopathy.
Supervision training : I trained with Sheila Ryan: Sea Change Supervision and Mentoring Course
Supervision is a confidential and supportive space to explore whatever is alive and potent at the present time. It is a space to discuss and examine cases, practice issues, case management and personal life challenges, to discuss and refine understanding of homeopathic philosophy, a listening space even when we are not clear what we are bringing to supervision. To encourage a reflective and questioning practice, to help free up creativity and the confidence to find your own solutions and ways to practice Homeopathy in a healthful and safe way.
Book a discovery chat with me and see if you would like to come and work with me in supervision.
So, I thought I'd start with some pictures, of Madrone trees, and of other things that inspire me or just that I would like to look at. The Madrone bark is stunning, pink and brown bark which peels off to reveal this vibrant almost luminous green underne
